WHAT SHIATSU IS
Shiatsu is a Japanese bodywork based on the ancestry of the Traditional Chinese Medicine. It was recognized and regulated by the Japanese Ministry of Health in the 1960s and works based on sustained pressure on specifics points of the body, with the aim of restoring the flow of vital energy (chi/ki) present in each of us. It relaxes the body and, at the same time, works on the deepest layers of our Being by bringing serenity to the mind and liberation in the emotional field.
The pressure points used in shiatsu are the same as in acupuncture and are located along 12 channels called meridians, through which vital energy circulates. Each meridian is linked to a vital organ such as the kidney, liver, heart and lung. When body and mind are healthy, energy circulation tends to occur in a balanced way. However, due to factors such as stress at different levels, poor posture and lack of physical exercise, among many others, the circulation of energy gets blocked at some points. These blockages cause pain and make the body more susceptible to injury and disease development.
At the end of a session, with the flow of energy rebalanced, patients enjoy the feeling of well-being resulting from body relaxation and mind serenity.
